Toya’s World

Karina Pasian’s debut album ‘First Love’ unveiled itself this week, which isn’t too bad considering that the album is officially released next week Tuesday via Def Jam (August 19th). Hailed as a younger Alicia Keys, Karina impresses on her thrilling debut. She’s worked with an array of top notch producers such as Tricky Stewart, The Dream, Rico Love, Ryan Leslie, Gordon Chambers and her label mate Ne-yo. In the opening number ’90’s Baby’, Karina proudly emphasises being born in the 90’s, which is pretty impressive considering she has the vocal prowess of someone much older. The bouncy dance number doesn’t display Karina’s amazing singing skill but the song is infectious with an equally catchy hook. The same can also be said towards the Lil Mama-assisted ‘Baby Baby’. The pop-tinged R&B cut ‘Can’t Find The Words’ is backed by a rhythmic piano and showcases a more mature side to the 16-year-old. And that maturity is further displayed on lead single ‘16 @ War’ which is a great representation of Independence and Self-Consciousness. The message behind the track is phenomenally inspirational.

Pop ballad ‘Winner’ is one of the few songs that showcases her vocals as confident and dominating as is the case with the sweet-natured ‘The Love We Got’. With every note she sings, she makes the song believable. Winner has gorgeous arrangements and a great pop melody. ‘Can You Handle It’ deals with the insecurities that often plaque a relationship. The song is a cool midtempo R&B number that sees Karina allowing her more mature side to take over yet again. Power ballad ‘Slow Motion’ is the track that seals Karina as the extraordinary vocal talent that she truly is. She sings the song with so much poise, raw emotion and passion which makes for a pretty compelling song. The hairs on your neck will literally stand up. ‘Can’t Bring Me Down’ has a more soulful edge and the album closes off with the slinky R&B number ‘First Love’.

I think the album as a whole is fantastic. There is not one song on the album that I disapproved of. From beginning to end the album never falters. Some songs I liked more than others but that’s to be expected with most albums anyway. And it makes a refreshing change to hear an album that doesn’t thrive on just hot beats (especially ones that are heavily synthesized) but quality music, subject matter, lyrical content and vocal talent which was something Karina wanted to focus on and for that she gets a lot of respect. And to be honest with you, I got kind of fed up of listening to the electronic/euro-pop synthy dance-driven music that seems to have taken over all of a sudden. My only disappointment with the album is that it could have done with more than 11 tracks, which is kind of stingy for a debut. But apart from that, I think I’m about to listen to this again. I soooo wish I could say she is going to do great but I have to be realistic about things…..

i dont think the person was hating. they were being fairly realistic. i do agree it was stingy to only put 11 tracks on her album esp as a debut. b4 u know it…the album is done. i love all the tracks, honestly, but i wish there was truly more tracks. with that said…today is the days of “burning cds”…most people arent going to buy an album now of days much less buy one with 11 tracks. thats the realization of it.

and the writer gives nothing but postivie feedback. even at the end says “i so wish to say that she is going to do great”…but this is a tough industry and she’s right..we gotta be realistic. i TRULY BELIEVE karina has mad talent. i just wish her debut showcased a little more of it. Ive supported karina going on 2 years now and i will continue to support her regardless…ive got MAD HEADZ hooked on her songs so the rest is up to the album sales!! i wish her nothing but luck and success. Love, Ny_Miami_Poet

KARINA HERE IS A REVIEW I FOUND ON THE INTERNET(WWW. EXCLUSIVELY EXCLUSIVE.COM)
Signed to Def Jam after a major label war over her talent, Karina Pasian is finally releasing her first studio effort entitled “First Love”. With little to no promotion there is very little that the album can do. The most she can attempt to achieve is a couple awards, a very small fanbase and maybe a collaboration with some washed up rapper in a couple months. That being said I love Karina and think she is one of the most talented chicks in the game.

The album starts off with an amazing song ’90’s Baby’ which I had to repeat before I went on to the next song! I was tremendously thrilled that Karina could have so much spunk and attitude on an uptempo track. This was also done on the second song, ‘Baby, Baby’ which is a Tricky Stewart production and features Lil’ Mama (who isn’t as amazing as she usually is on this one as Karina outshines her easily).

The singles ‘Can’t Find The Words’ & ‘16 @ War’ go hand in hand together on the album. We all know the level of these songs. Of course, the latter trumps the other but the melodies in each is just beautiful.

What’s satisfying about the album is that Karina doesn’t slip into the usual “I’m a teenage girl but I’m gonna sing about sex, cars and how much I really love this boy and he crushed my heart etc, etc.” The album is generally filled with mature yet understandable lyrics from a sixteen year old’s point of view.

‘The Love We Got’ which is a rumoured 3rd single is an outstanding track. It’s like a toned down Mariah Carey song. Very beautiful. A real R&B song. The remainder of the album is good but jumps to great with the last song, ‘First Love’ where Karina Pasian identifies music as her first love

Good review…it was honest and fair to me. I think they were bein real and no hate goes for that. But heres my review =).

Karina’s Album “First Love” has a fair shot at doing good, especially with the right promotion. All she has to do is go hard when she’s performing, and sell her self the right way. She has beautiful vocals and the tracks are fit for the ears of everyone. I loved them all personally and know that this won’t be the end regaurdless of what the critics say.

peace an love <0—Justin ‘Blu J.D.’ Davis

That was a great review. I agree w/ it being only 11 tracks…It is short. And I also agree with the author when she said that you dont even have to skip through any song. Its just so good when you can get vocals, lyrics, soul….QUALITY RnB! The only part I dont understand is “I soooo wish I could say she is going to do great but I have to be realistic about things…”…reality is that Karina is one the hottest female artists. I believe she will do great. She only has…what? THE HOTTEST INTERNET BUZZ EVER RIGHT NOW! And it helps that she has GREAT promo. She will def. succeed in the industry. :)
